Specialising in Equine Assisted Learning for young people across Staffordshire & Derbyshire

Equine Assisted Learning

HLWES has been providing Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) to children and young people since 2015.

EAL is an innovative approach using horses to support young people who may have;

  • Difficulties with traditional schooling

  • Special educational needs

  • Social, emotional, behavioural concerns

  • Learning difficulties

  • Additional support needs

Through observing, caring for and working with horses, young people gain a better understanding of their own anxieties and behaviour. This leads to

  • greater resilience,

  • improved social skills

  • emotional growth.

All horses are carefully chosen and riding is available to those who wish to.

HLWES has worked with hundreds of young people and has seen first hand how this approach can increase self confidence, raise self esteem and improve communications skills. We then see how young people better engage with more traditional classroom based learning and education.

We work along side the British Horse Society (BHS) and offer young people the opportunity to gain equine qualifications through the Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH) programme and Explorers awards.

All our staff are Enhanced DBS checked, first aid trained and trained in safeguarding and autism awareness.
